The Beyond director Hasraf “HaZ” Dulull is set to produce and helm an animated feature based on Mutant: Year Zero Road to Eden, a tactical adventure video game.
The Mutant: Year Zero movie is set in a post-apocalyptic world where an unlikely team of animal-mutants, led by a witty duck and a gruff boar, set out on a dangerous mission to reclaim an essential generator stolen from their sanctuary, the Ark. Together, the scavengers uncover a deeper truth behind the Ark’s divisions, confront the oppressive regime of the Elder and discover secrets that could reshape their dystopian existence.
Dolph Lundgren and Ian McElhinney have joined the voice cast for the animated game movie. Dulull, who started out as a visual effects supervisor on movies such as The Dark Knight and Hellboy 2, in recent years has directed movies like Origin Unknown, starring Katee Sackhoff, his first movie, The Beyond, and more recently Max Beyond, the animated action sci-fi pic.
Heroic Signatures sees Dulull’s next project as the first animated feature for the Mutant: Year Zero franchise. The director will use Unreal Engine 5 to expand the Mutant: Year Zero Road to Eden game to a big-screen experience.
The Mutant: Year Zero game movie will also be produced by Fred Malmberg, president of Heroic Signatures, and Pathfinder founding partner Mark Wheeler.
“We cannot wait for fans to get a glimpse at what we have been working on to bring Mutant: Year Zero to life as an animated feature film. Our goal at Heroic is to constantly challenge ourselves to create fresh, expanded experiences across different media based on our adventurous characters and stories for both existing fans and new ones,” Malmberg said in a statement.
Developed by HaZimation and Northern Ireland Screen, producer Paula Crickard and music composer Edward White are also part of the creative team. Heroic Signatures, known for its iconic IP, including Conan the Barbarian, will be at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend for a panel on comics.
